Did you know that qualifying San Diego families can use Regional Center funding to train jiu jitsu? Five Peaks Jiu Jitsu in Tierrasanta is an officially approved vendor for the San Diego Regional Center (SDRC), Freedom Academy, and Pacific Coast Academy (PCA) through the We Defy Foundation. This guide explains what that means and exactly how to use your funding to get on the mat.
What Is an Approved Vendor?
An approved vendor is a service provider authorized to receive funding directly from a funding organization on behalf of a qualifying client. Instead of paying out of pocket, the client's program covers the cost of training. Five Peaks has completed the vendor approval process with each of our partner organizations, which means your funding can be applied directly to your membership.
Who Can Use Vendor Funding at Five Peaks?
We are approved to serve clients through three programs:
- San Diego Regional Center (SDRC) — for individuals with developmental disabilities
- Freedom Academy — supporting students through structured enrichment programs
- Pacific Coast Academy (PCA) / We Defy Foundation — empowering underserved youth and veterans

How to Use Your Funding in Three Steps
- Check your eligibility — contact your caseworker or program coordinator to confirm you qualify for vendor-funded martial arts training.
- Request Five Peaks as your vendor — ask your coordinator to authorize Five Peaks Jiu Jitsu as your approved service provider.
- Start training — once approved, your funding covers the program's fees. Show up, train, grow, and we handle the rest.
Why Jiu Jitsu Works for SDRC Clients
Jiu jitsu is a highly adaptable martial art. Rather than relying on size or strength, it teaches leverage, body awareness, and problem-solving. For SDRC clients of all ages, that translates into real benefits: improved focus, confidence, motor coordination, and social development. Our instructors are experienced working with students of all backgrounds and abilities, and every class is structured to be safe and encouraging.
